Feel Empowered to Step Forward into 2012

I hope the holiday break was relaxing, refreshing and gave you time to slow down before the return to work. Now it’s a distant memory!

Here at Chelsea Massage, the clinic slowed down, then stopped for 2 weeks. Lara stayed in Adelaide while Helen was over at Tumby Bay for the New Year, near the beach. Since being back we are making a huge difference in muscle pain, fatigue, stress and chronic scoliosis problems. Often people come to us as a last resort, when everything else has been tried without success.

What we offer to you does have an amazing affect in what you are looking for to be happy and return to your healthy and happy self. Be prepared to concentrate on your health and not your pocket. For without your health, nothing else happens; your life stops the things, and the thing you love to do stops.

A lady last week had been in so much pain she stopped driving her car, and her daughter was very concerned. She loves fishing and wanted to go out there on the water but she couldn’t even do that for the rocking of the boat would have been too painful. In one and a half weeks, she was driving her car, went fishing with her friend, and the pain lines on her face are now gone and she looks relaxed.

Lara’s client had pains in his legs; he would rest a day or two and expect that his legs would be fine, BUT every time he went back to the gym they would get even more painful and it was hard for him to know what to do. The missing ingredient was NOT having a remedial massage, and as soon as he had his muscles released and was injury FREE, he continued the holistic approach every 2 weeks so he gets to go to the gym and enjoy his sessions stress and pain free.

Did you know that people who use the gym to release stress by pushing their body too hard cause injuries, they don’t get the pain sorted, and then they damage the muscles and have to STOP exercise? That is terrible. To love what you do but can’t do it.

Cheap is very expensive if nothing works! Some people are paying $50.00 for 5 minutes of treatment, 3 times a week; then add time, fuel and travel, that equals 15 minutes @$150.00. Other therapies are $60.00 for 3 minutes, 3 times per week; 3 x $60.00 equals $180.00 per week for 9 minutes of treatment. With the holistic massage approach (which looks at helping all of you), 60 minutes is just $110.00.

Last year I noticed people were searching for something that would help with their problems and often being told “You have to put up with it for the rest of your life,” which seems like a hard thing to do. Be prepared — many before you, including myself, needed to find answers to their problems. Tip #2:  Where Does Your Pain Really Come From?

You can have pain in one area of your body, and you massage and put cream on it to relieve that area but it just doesn’t make any difference. Often the pain is coming from somewhere else in the body.

One classic case is hip pain. Many say it is sciatic pain or bursitis. What happens is the muscles get tight and can really be caused by overloading the muscles in the front of the upper leg or the calf. If only one small area is relaxed, the other areas in pain can become more painful.

Look at the whole body approach because what they say is, “The squeaky wheel gets most of the attention.” The area in your body with the most pain get ths attention first.

Tip #5:  What to Do When Negative Thoughts Keep Coming

Negative thoughts can come very quickly into our environment with newspapers, TV, radio and in what people say around us. The news is to sell ads and information and they can be very impactful.

Start reading positive books and switch the radio and TV off or listen to music with your headphones on. If you have been working hard, your thoughts turn into fatigue and tension in the muscles which restricts movement and puts a heaviness into your mind.

Drinking less alcohol, coffee and sweets will help to rebalance your mind and spirit. Use massage to rebalance the body’s muscles.

“Do You or Someone You Know Have Multiple Sclerosis?”

Google is a good resource for doing research into how you can get help with Multiple Sclerosis, as each person is individual, and so is MS in its symptoms. Research has found that a Massage and Reflexology combination can make a big difference to those suffering with MS.

I suggest the only way to know is to have 2-3 sessions and see what your body feels, how your body responds, and the symptoms you have.

You will know and I will not need to tell you because after the first treatment you will know how you are. A client came in earlier this week feeling and being very out of balance. After treatment he was standing still and comfortable on his feet. Christmas is such a busy time, and at this time family can be pulled apart or pushed together by life.

This year our whole family is catching up for breakfast from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. lunchtime.  It is such a lovely time of the day, and the grandchildren are happy and well rested.  The grands are always up early and so everybody should be!  It doesn’t matter if you see family on different days, it’s about spending time together, having fun.

Some years flow and others have trauma and huge stress.  When we sit down for lunch I always say hi to my grandparents and Dad that are not with us.  For me, it is a lovely way to remember them in a happy way.  We all have our ways to remember the ones we lost; let this be a happy thought of who they have been for you.

Tip #4:  Are You Low on Vitamin D?

Summer is here and it has not gotten really hot yet.  We have had up and down days with the weather; two days hot and the next day rain.  It is time to spend a little more time out in the sun.  Doctors recommend going out in the morning for 15 minutes.  Read the paper and have breakfast out in the morning warmth with family.  Working inside all day, the body gets low and stops taking in the sunlight.  You need balance for your body’s health.

Tip #27:  Are Your Arms Cramping and Feeling Weak?

We use our hands for everything we do.  The muscles in the lower arms do all the movements in your wrists, hands, fingers and joint muscles.  Some common problems include cutting vegetables all day, every day; hammering; writing, like students in exams; being on the computer using your finger on the keyboard; and more.  Over a long period of time they become tired.

Overloading all the muscles cause cramping, weakness and pain.  The remedy is to have a massage, plus run cold water over the area.

“Mums, Are You Feeling a Little Run Off Your Feet?”

Are you finding you have to go to this party and that party, including friends in your children’s school?  It is becoming a bit much!

You know you could run around and go to everything you’ve been invited to, which on one level is real lovely to be invited.  Then there’s the guilt of not going at all and having to make an excuse.  But what is the real reason?

You are so tired, you can feel it is getting on top of you, but you feel like you better go.

Have you noticed that the parties are not all in your local area; some are where you have not traveled to before?  You’re not sure where it is and you have to find it, it’s not the best traveling by yourself with all the kids because they can get a bit… awful.

Do you go because you should or for the kids’ sake or do you save yourself a lot of STRESS and anxiety, and stay home when you know where everybody is and it would just be easier?

When the level reaches the boiling point and you are about to blow, this is anxiety and it will hit you like a ton of bricks!  Some think the pain in their chest is them having heartache or worse, they feel very sick, hot in the face and become confused.  It is a scary place to be!

What should you do?  Stop!

5 Steps to Release Stress, Pain and Anxiety

  1. If you are driving a car, pull over, off the road safely.  Calm yourself down, have a small drink of water, lock the doors to stay safe and keep children in the car.  If you are not far from home, just drive carefully.
  2. CALL your husband/partner/Mum/Dad/someone to talk to.
  3. See a doctor as quick as you can and let someone else drive.  The doctors will access you and do what they do to see what is going on.  If it’s anxiety, every little upset will make you feel worse.  Settle down and stay quiet.  You will feel confused, heavy over the heart and chest, and you’ll feel foggy in the head.
  4. Have 2-3 massages.  They calm the fatigue down in the muscles from how tired you are.  This will also relax your mind from confusion.  Think through what set you off.  If you’re doing too much, look back where you should have stopped but you kept pushing yourself past your alarm bells.  What upset you and made you feel uncomfortable?
  5. Children are very aware of what is happening so talk to them.  Your children will base their behaviour on the way you feel.  Children usually are the opposite of quiet.

Looking After Your Body with Massage – Playing Sports and Massage

When I started massaging 19 years ago in the country, there was not remedial massage places to go for treatment like there are today here in Adelaide.  The health fund did not have massage at all on their list for good health.

When I was a sports trainer and did sports massage, they would line up before playing football to get their stiff back loosened.  There was always this tough guy that put the deep heat on his legs himself and then wondered why he couldn’t catch the ball.  Deep heat has a numbing affect when applied to the skin.  One day he injured his hamstring (the back of his leg) and the muscle was badly damaged.  Now his 3 sons have regular massages!

Stretching is good while your muscles are young, the fibres are open and before injuries start happening.  When the muscles are physically working hard or you sit down for a long period of time, the pressure builds up.

Pilates are great if you are not restricted with aches and pain.  Often they say it’s the answer to everything but if you are very tight and are not using massage and Pilates together, this will cause more problems and injuries.  Then you think, well that doesn’t work!  Many of the football players that are now 80+years old like to have a massage so they can play golf, and bend while playing lawn bowls.  Their wives never had a massage so they don’t know the benefits of any massage.

We looked after our two grandchildren a week ago and they stayed overnight.  My grandson went off to bed after getting home from celebrating my daughter’s 25th birthday; he put his head on the pillow, fell asleep and stayed asleep all night.  Grandpa is normally up at 6 a.m. most mornings but I was not quite ready for our granddaughter and grandson waking up at 6:30 a.m.  I found the cartoons DVD — and Grandma went back to bed!

Tip #38:  Are You Grinding Your Teeth?

Some people grit their teeth at night.  They’ve been to the dentist, but they can’t find anything.  To try to resolve the problem, they try this and that but they are still getting headaches into your jaw.  They go to the back and up to your eye, jaw bones, up the side of your face and around to your temples and forehead.

If you’re wondering why you keep griting your teeth at night, well it is tension from your neck, shoulders and back becoming so locked up in your muscles that the tension is tight, restricting movement, and then becomes an anxiety movement from the restriction.  Clicking, jaw locking and jaw out of alignment are common problems.

Some of the causes include whiplash from car accidents when your head is thrown around, having your mouth open too long at the dentist, chewing gum (which overloads the jaw muscles), injury to the face and neck, and long term stress.

How do you release it?  Dentists use mouth guards and some people grind through the plastic.  Others hate them and throw them out of their mouth.  But it does nothing to heal the problem and is simply a Bandaid.

Again, these are muscles that have become overloaded over a long period of time. We use techniques to unlock the knots in the muscles with remedial massage and give the person techniques to unlock the muscles and return to muscle strength and health.

Tip #46:  Are You Waking Up When You Roll Over in Bed at Night?

Getting uncomfortable in bed and waking up to roll around in bed is common when your muscles get tight.

It is not the bed or the pillow’s fault when you are uncomfortable in bed.  When your muscles are very tight, there is no stretch and cushion in the muscles.  This means the bones feel very tender due to the lack of cushion in the muscles and they get harder.  The solution is to release the tension in the muscles with remedial massage.  That way the muscles will stretch, become stronger again, move more easily, and feel lighter in your body.

Looking After Your Body with Massage

I’ve been listening to the new clients coming in and having a massage.  One man said that he had been to the Doctor with terrible pain in his lower back.  He looked at me and said to me, “The doctor said I have to live with it.”  Then he looked me in the eye and asked, “Why did the Doctor not tell me to have a massage?  Often Doctors just don’t know.

Do you want to know how he found us to have his massage?  Two of his friends told him to come to Chelsea Massage because they’ve got “Magic Hands”.  Yes, he was much better when he came out of his massage.

I even have people come in that have been driving past us every day for the past 10 years and until that point had not seen the massage clinic.  The reason they had not seen us before is because we don’t see what we don’t need until we need it.  Then we see what is needed and available.

For instance, a few years ago my husband and I were fixing a little Datsun car up, wondering what colour we should pain the little car.  So we chose a bright yellow colour.  The first day I drove the car out on the road and went to a local town.  Suddenly I started to notice lots of yellow cars on the road! :)

“Empowering You and Your Family”

In my massage room, it is one-on-one with a client.  For me it is special to be able to help people that have pain, feel stressed, stuck, fatigue and trauma.  Others need relaxation, and some need help at a deeply emotional level and we can do that.

Massage is one way for me to make a difference and I love my massage work.  As a young mum with 4 little kids, life was hectic.  The day I had my first massage was the day I felt so good that I thought to myself, if all mums could have massage they would all feel good too!

Three months later I went to Adelaide on my own to learn professional massage.  I started my own massage business and became busy very quickly.  Every time I went back to Adelaide I always learned more about myself and would go home inspired.

Helping my family and helping my clients was fabulous and the more I learned, the more I found ways to help others.  One-on-one is fabulous but I want to help more; I want to help everybody!  Then my book “Empowering You and Your Family” came to life so now I can give this to you too.

Some of you will not be ready yet and that’s ok.  Others will take it on and will want more.  I can give you more if you want your freedom!  This comes from my experience over the last 19 years.  Now my book is a reality and is at the printer!

I have been writing my book over the last 12 months, as you may be aware.  The last 19 years of experience is where all my inspiration has come from, and massage and coaching are the perfect match.

The muscles hold the physical and emotional stress in the fibres.  Have you noticed that when you are stuck you find life difficult and so hard to move forward?  This happens because often the body is in pain, fatigued and overwhelmed, along with headaches.  Is blaming others a common complaint?

Some great feedback is coming through after reading my book and asking for their input.  They asked if the part you talked about in the book was what we talked about, and yes, that’s right.  I now understand more about why I saw my life that way and why I felt like crying after the session.  It was a release, built up after many years of suffering.  So the book is not to tell you it is this way, but more about opening your heart and mind to what is really important to you.

Tip #34:  What is a Migraine and What You Should Do to Fix the Problem

Many who get migraines come from stressful jobs, have muscle tension, trauma or often have had an accident.  Remedial Massage unlocks the muscles that have become restricted.

It is not just one leg or the right shoulder, but an overall holistic approach of what is happening in your body.  Looking at the overall you, not just what happened last week, but looking at your whole life; what you have been lifting and shifting, traumas, stresses in your life.

The built up tension can come on very quickly and over time becomes harder to control.  Stop when you feel them coming on.  Don’t have a massage when you are in the middle of the migraine as driving can be dangerous.  It can limit you in being able to see well so please stay at home in a dark room, which is better.  After the migraine has passed, this is the time to come and have your massage to unlock the muscles.

Tip #25:  Party Shoes for the Party Season

It is the beginning of the party season!  Are you wondering what you can do to keep your feet from aching?  If you want to wear those shoes, let’s make that happen.

You want to prevent damage to your cuff, twisting and going over onto your ankle, pain in your arches, and sores under your toes.  What really helps when you’re wearing high heels?

When your centre of gravity is in balance, it helps you look and walk taller and more elegantly.  Massage releases the tension in the muscles so muscles stay strong and it helps to prevent leg and foot damage, as well as releases your lower back and helps your tummy to stop sticking out.

Another fashion is the very flat sandals with hard soles which have no cushion for the muscles, causing the bones to get very tender.  The lower legs, after having a little bit of heel during the week in walking shoes, can cause pulling and causes a jarring into the knees.  Time to get those muscles relaxed so you can have a great time!

“What’s Happening in 2012?”

I am on a Mission!  I have done lots of courses around creating income to be debt free, have money in the bank, and no more worrying about that big bill coming in.  Is Money working for me or am I working for it — Money?

This week I have taken another LEAP forward to a new higher level program with my coach and mentor in 2012.  I will be writing more on Facebook and asking you what else I can help you with.  I have also been online with my 2 main websites for a few years.

I have had many of you ask when I was going to start my own coaching program and some have asked for an online program.  We now have Kajabi, which is a membership program that is easy to access and you have one place you can go to anytime to see all the information in one area.

I have bought many programs over the years, received emails every week and they get lost.  Trying to find that email from months ago with that program you wanted to read again is hard to do.

This is my way of keeping it all together under one area with easy access.  Where you can ask questions on massage and muscle problems.  I’ll keep you posted on what happens with my Kajabi membership site.

Pregnancy Massage

Remember that we also specialise in Pregnancy Massage.

I know remedial massage releases the aches and discomcomfort in your upper body but also soothes your aching feet, all while relaxing and energising you, leaving you feeling lighter and more comfortable.  It’s all about having a relaxed, easy-going, fabulous experience being pregnant, and having a natural, relaxed and easy birth — until you have experienced this level of fatigue and tireness it is hard to believe.  And this gives you a sleeping, 8 hours a night, happy and healthy baby and Mum!

This is not meant to alarm you but I have seen and heard many mums that are not coping well.  All the dreadful stories from TV are talking about how parents are not coping; the professionals know and can see all these reasons why, using big words for all the problems they have.  In the UK health system, these mums are getting massage once a week after birth.  What about Australia’s mums?

If you are fatigued before and while pregnant, you’ll be fatigued when you’re going home from the hospital.  You’re leaving yourself wide open to baby not sleeping, not feeding, sickness, being traumatised, a screaming baby and a worn out mum.  You’ll not be coping well — and this is all preventable.  Getting that low is a real struggle to pull yourself out of this hole, and others are told to take tablets but it’s just a Band Aid.

From my experience as a mum of 4 children, watching many, many mums over the last nearly 20 years as a professional massage practitioner, and massaging pregnant mums all the way to mums with small children, adult children, my own 3 grandchildren at their start in life, and many of my friends and family members — regular massage turned around these Mums’ recovery very quickly.

Are you ready to relax during the school holidays?

School holidays are nearly here. You’re feeling tired from rushing the children around to sports, school and other activities. It’s good to stop when the holidays are on and spend time at home or going on a family holiday.

Are you ready?

Have you had your massage this month?

Get in quick and have your massage because time does go quickly and you don’t want to feel fatigue, worn out, pain or sickness!

A good time to do it is right now to get those muscles ironed out so you are free from pain.  This will help you to keep up with the kids and stay patient with them.  For working mums it is like juggling balls; a few days off or even going away with the family — you just keep working on what you need to do each day and just keep on going…

I found that getting a massage just settles me down and puts me back in balance.

During the holidays is when many of the teachers come in and have their massages.  Spring is here and after a full term of teaching, the neck gets tight from talking, the shoulders from leaning over their desk marking papers, and on the computer even your fingers are working hard!

Book your massage at the beginning of the school holidays to feel relaxed for the rest of your holiday, free of tension and refreshed, ready for the next term.

Tip #24:  Getting the Stitch When Working Out

Round shoulders are more likely to get crippling side stitches and problems with poor posture and headaches during working out as the muscle tension builds.  This pressing on the nerves is what’s to blame.  A balance of massage while strengthening your muscles for core stabilization is a must to prevent injuries.

Stretching the muscles does help but is not the full answer to preventing torn muscles and pain.  As the muscles become tight they get mini tears which gives you the pain and restriction.  So while walking, gym dance, and all other activities, massage keeps the muscles relaxed and working with ease.

Tip #28:  Are You Running the City to Bay?

Coming soon is the City to Bay Run.  Some are signed up to do the 6 km run while others are doing the 12 km run.  Many more children will be riding their bikes and Mums and Dads will be out with the pram.  The City to Bay starts in the morning.

Don’t forget to keep aches and pains at bay with remedial massage to put power into your muscles.  Tight, aching muscles mean you’re becoming overloaded and to continue running will cause more problems and will prevent you from starting the run.

To prevent a deterioration of muscles further after the running is complete, many sports people with injuries have a massage the day after the event.

Part 4 of a 4 Part Series

In the August Newsletter we talked about a game that you and Money play.  August was about asking you if you have paid off all the credit cards, car loans and are putting all that extra money into paying off a home loan. How are your little workers doing?  Are you making them work harder than you?  What type of advertising is working on you?

September is here; are you getting your little workers started on the road to give you your freedom?

Last week I heard how Dave paid off his last loan and realized he could retire.  So he went to work that day and told his boss, “Friday I am retiring; I don’t need to come to work anymore!”

The boss did not see that coming!  Now Dave and his wife are off to travel around Australia.

For me it means I can enjoy taking a weekend off and watch my 28 year old son who was playing country football in the reserve for Balaklava.  He has been playing football since he was old enough to play mini colts.  A few times he made the first or second finals over the years, and 2 years ago his team was in the grand final but couldn’t pull it off.

This month, 10/9/11, Michael’s team won by 19 points!  This is the first grand finale he has ever won and he was so happy and he proudly carried his 15-month old son to receive the medal that was placed around his son’s neck.  Do you remember how wonderful that feeling is when you won?  There was a party afterwards, and I have posted some picture up on my website at http://www.helenbrougham.com.au/. Why do I tell you this story?  This is about winning at what you want.  It may not be today or tomorrow but it will happen.

What else can you do when you’re not concerned with paying off a bill?  A lady had been working all her life and decided she did not want to be an educator full time but did not want to go back to working night duty either.  So she took a 7 week leave and very quickly found it was much more fun catching up with friends, having more time for her regular massage, and relaxing the whole afternoon instead of rushing to the next appointment.

How many little workers could you gather to be more powerful than you have been, to get that amount of freedom in your life?  And how would that help your relationships?  Would you need to work full-time or could you go part-time, being debt free?  Maybe even have the life you said would really be fabulous!  Or maybe an overseas holiday… You know you can have it!

You have not gotten there yet!  It is a work in progress and as our little workers are working for us, so can you have more of what you want.

Have you been watching The Block on TV?

The two sisters were painting the outside of their home and Amie could not lift her arm.

Concerned about what the pain was, they drove to the hospital to have an x-ray.  Now do you remember what the outcome was?  Amie had strained her muscles at the top of her shoulder and arm, forearm, hand and fingers.  The pain was from painting the wall.  Because her body was not used to doing this type of work, her muscles overloaded and went into muscle spasms and locked up.

This is a common injury we have here at Chelsea Massage.  From Mum picking up the children, lifting boxes and twisting around, neck pain from carrying heavy bags, sitting at the desk every day, every week, every month and every year — it continues to overload the muscles and then they have become painful as they become tighter.  It is not a spine thing, but a muscle problem.

Tip #6:  Should you exercise when you’re sick?

Many think that if they keep exercising they will get rid of their cold.  Often the body gets a flu or virus because it has become run down and is in fatigue or injury mode.  We have had all this heavy coughing, painful, sharp catching in the throat, and sneezing from all the flus and viruses.  Every cough causes the muscles in your back, neck, shoulders, ribs and stomach to expand outwards rapidly, which causes all your muscles to become painful on movement, strained and hurt when you breathe in and out.  Massage is a great way to loosen all the muscles and release any remaining effects from being sick.  Many are nearly over their cold, then have been falling sick with the same virus over again.

Tip #9:  Are you watching all the Doom and Gloom?

How do you stay positive when so much is going on around you?  Newspapers, TV and magazines have to play up their stories to get you in so you will buy more.  Watching and talking to positive people keeps you on track in what you are doing in your life.  Many people get hooked on what people tell them and don’t do their own research.  Research, research and research.  Stay within your means to have an easier life.

I am on a Mission!  I have done lots of courses around creating income to be debt free, have money in the bank, and no more worrying about that big bill coming in.  Is Money working for me or am I working for it — Money?

We all have it, but what you do with the problem is what I would like to take to the next level.

This is a 4 part series on “Money and the Games It Plays on You”.

Part 3 of a 4 Part Series

In the July Newsletter we talked about a game that you and Money play.  July was about your expenses and what you are paying for.  Did you find you’re paying more than you thought?  I found I could add an extra $100.00 per fortnight to our home loan to make it go down quicker.  Also, one of my accounts had $2.50 coming out for the last six months and I didn’t even know what for!  So I got the bank to stop that money coming out.

August

Your little workers — every $1.00 is a worker.  You are a worker to get the money; you have to work in your job to do things for your boss to bring in the money so he / she can pay you.

At the moment, money has been put in places that are going down, e.g. sharemarket business, and DVDs and book shops.  There are many people that say they have the answer, but who said to put it there?

Do you have a home loan?  If so, add up the interest you pay per month, multiply that by 12 months, then multiply that by the number of years you have been paying for your home (I am not giving you financial advice; you should always seek your own information).

I did not say it was going to be easy, but look at the problem head-on and take your power back!  Remember, all that advertising to get you in is not working on you anymore!

Change the TV station when the commercials come on; yes, sometimes there are commercials on every station.  That is no accident either!

Stop watching the doom and gloom; boring stories do not sell papers and don’t get you pulled in.  If you get pulled into the stories, and advertisers want you to buy something to make you feel better — after 5 minutes of this you’ll buy anything; even though you know you will end up feeling worse.  Then, after getting it home, you hide it from the family because you feel guilty.  This is when it is really easy to go and eat stuff to make those feelings better.  That doesn’t work either!  Just don’t watch those programs!  The other day an accountant said he watches sports, and this was an easy way to get excited and feel like he was being a part of a game.

Have a look at paying off your debts, your credit cards first.  First, start with the smallest amount on a credit card.  After you pay that one off, close the account.  Now add that money to the next debt; and one by one you’ll make your workers give you freedom.  Keep going the same way on any other loans.  Have a look at how much money you would have if you were debt FREE.

How many little workers could you gather to be more powerful than you have been, to get that amount of freedom in your life?  And how would that help your relationships?  Would you need to work full-time or could you go part-time, being debt free?  Maybe even have the life you said would really be fabulous!  Or an overseas holiday… You know you can have it!

Many are avoiding the truth of the debt they have.  Be brave and take control.  Are you going to choose avoidance or freedom?

You are the gate keeper!

woman getting massageTip #1:  The Last of the Winter Colds

Colds, flu and viruses have come thick and fast this year.  Many have gotten over one lot of flu only to get it back, many with an awful barking cough.  When the flu has passed, this is the perfect time to get your massage and release all the muscles from all the coughing.  Your throat muscles have been stretched; your ribs are constantly exploding and the muscles and spasms cause the muscles to hurt.  You don’t want to leave it left untreated as this will cause muscle tightness in other areas of the body and become painful.  Massage is good to release the last of the flu and symptoms from the muscle fibres so your immune system can recover quickly.  Many have had the same flu, or even a different strain, for the last 3-4 months.  So schedule your massage quickly as it does make a big difference.

Tip #3:  Overloaded Muscleswoman doing yoga

The return of relaxed and pain FREE muscles is so nice.  You become happy and thankful to be able to bend over and stand up more easily.  You may feel like you are the same as you were, but you are not the same anymore.  Many try to return to full on exercise; pushing, adding another class.  The body will shut down and you will return to a full painful experience.

This is a 4 part series on “Money and the Games It Plays on You”.

Part 2 of a 4 Part Series

In the June Newsletter we talked about a game that you and Money play.  Did you find money in all sorts of places?  Which place surprised you the most and why was it a surprise for you?  I found my surprise was that my husband always empties his pockets out on the kitchen table where he puts his phone and glasses at bedtime.  For me, I realised that I did not have coins in the corner of my purse.  I needed to tidy out more of my bag.  What did you do with your coins?  Do you use them for lunch money, put the coins in a tin or in the bank?

First this week is about your income.

Do you know exactly how much income you have from week to week if you are self-employed, or do you just hope that it will be ok?  Do you have accounts that you have done the work on but have not invoiced, or have not gotten paid for yet (if this business does not pay on time they could stop you from paying your bills on time)?

If you are employed, do you check your pay slips or does it get thrown somewhere never to be seen again?

Second is expenses.  Do you keep a computer record or book form of all your expenses each week and month?

Do you know what bills are coming each week?

This one might be a big one for you — do you check to see if you got the refund money back into your account, or check to see if you are still paying for something that you should have finished paying for months ago?  Is there $2.50 coming out of your bank account every month that you have no idea what it is for?

This is all about being conscious in all areas of money and where it goes.  You work hard for your money, five days a week, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, and not know where and what your money is doing for you.  Are you the slave or is your money???  Or do you even want to know?  This is where the new game comes in.

Imagine if every $$$ dollar was to become a worker and you could make them work harder than you do.  Maybe even give you back double or triple.  Would you pay attention then?

You have to know how much is coming in and how much is going out.  Look at how much you want to spend money on what and then get the rest of the money to start working for you — and reverse who’s working for whom.

You are the gate keeper!

  1. Write a list of everything you spend now
  2. Choose what to pay for
  3. Figure out what you don’t need to keep paying anymore and cancel.

You have the right to be more powerful than your money and we are going to give you that secret next month.

Have you noticed that many say one thing yet do another?

One of my mentors had a shop full of kitchen items and her slogan was…

“If it’s not in my kitchen, it’s not in my shop.”  I liked what she was saying and I thought about how it applied to our massage business.

“If we don’t do it on ourselves, we don’t do it on you.”

One of those areas for me is my weight; it is not where I would like it to be.  So I don’t mention or focus anything about your weight, diet food or what you must do in the gym.  What you will hear from me is how to find clarity in your mind, letting go of stuff like old beliefs, feeling great, positive thoughts with positive action, empowering you to be your best, and talking about your muscles so you get an understanding of why your muscles are the way they are.

We have all done it, saying, “It will get better, it always has in the past!”  The trouble is it used to but as we have another birthday, have done more things in our lives, had the stress of someone close passing, had an accident and worked through recovery, or just had a very overwhelming month at work or home, then this takes its toll on the body, the mind, and the muscles.

Tip #10: Rug Up Over Winter Weather

Have you already starting to notice your skin is always cold and you may be thinking “That’s how I’ve always been” but what I have found is that often this is where there is thickness and matting in the muscles.  Whenever you are going outside, wear extra clothes underneath a thick coat, scarf, long pants and warm boots.  When the muscles and skin get the chill it can turn into flu, virus, stiffness, aches and painful muscles.

I am on a Mission!  I have done lots of courses around creating income so I can be debt free and have money in the bank, with no more worrying about bills coming in.

We all have it, but what you do with that problem is what I would like to take to the next level.

This is a 4 part series on “Money and the Games It Plays on You”.

 We all have hang-ups about money.  Wouldn’t it be great to just let money flow like a waterfall that collects in a pool below?  We could, but it is first always about stuff we hold onto.

First is clean and tidy out your cupboards.  Remove what is not being used and re-pack in an order of those items used less at the back, regular use at the front.  Go through your home, the car and your work area.  Get a sense about how you feel as you do each cupboard or vacuum the car.  What’s coming up for you now?

Second is to pick up all the loose coins from around the house, in the car and at work in your area.

Something I heard last night was, “When you are in debt it keeps you enslaved; clear of debt gives you Freedom to create anything.”

What your mind thinks about is what you get.  Will you allow the negative in the world right now affect you or will you stay peaceful and do what you can to help yourself?  Did you hear the story of Chicken Little?  He said the sky was falling and yelled and screamed to everybody those words.  Far off, back up on the hill overlooking the little town was another chicken with a different view that could see everything and he said the sky was not falling; it was just a big leaf off the tree.  What view will you choose?

I think our sunny days may be less as we go into winter.  Have you got your rugs, warm rooms, and have your scarves and coats on when venturing outdoors?  Lara and the family always go up to the Adelaide hill on a late Saturday afternoon to smell the wood fires burning; it smells up the gullies and you can see the amazing colours of autumn going into winter.  It’s now time to sit quietly reading books, gather your thoughts, learn new things, reflect back over the year and see where adjustments can be made to stay on your path, meditate and listen to gentle, flowing music, move forward, collect yourself and let go of what is not needed, while waiting to step forward into spring with a burst of you!

Tip #33:  Heel Pain? 
I had an 86 year old lady the other day who told me later that a golf ball had hit her on her ankle bone.  She just kept playing, thinking it would be fine.  The bone, tendons and muscles were traumatised, which had her limping, and her cuff muscles were very tight.  Often the pain even gets worse.

This is the body’s way of telling you I need HELP.  Always use ice over the area and about  a hands-width out surrounding the area that was hit.  When her ankle got hit it broke the blood vessels and bled into the surrounding tissue.  If you are on blood thinning tablets, this will bleed even more, causing swelling in and down around that area.  The area can stay achy and stiff, sometimes 2-3 weeks after the injury.

Tip #7: ICE the Bruises
Anytime you are playing sports, are in the garden, out on the golf course or on the netball or football ground, if you get hit, punched or a ball hits you — anything that causes a bruise — always remember R.I.C.E.R., which stands for
REST
ICE
COMPRESSION
ELEVATE
REFERRAL

You may be saying, “What does that do?” 

This is a way to remember what needs to be done first in helping a person with bruises.

Rest by stop doing the activity you are doing.

Ice makes the area very cold and stops the blood vessels from bleeding into and around other areas of the muscles.  What the ice does is it makes that area very cold and closes up the hole where the bleeding is coming from.

Compression is wrapping a bandage around the area after it is cold to stop swelling into the tissue around the area.

Elevation is putting the area up; such as propping your leg up on a chair or your arm up over the chest area.

Referral means going to the Doctor in Emergency with a concussion, deep cut, broken bones or sprains.

What you should do after 2 days:

Rest to take time to allow the bruise to heal completely.  Keep ice in the freezer in plastic bags so you can quickly lay the bag over the bruised area, leaving it on for 20 minutes, then taking it off for 10 minutes.  Do this again in 2 hours.

Do not massage the area because this breaks open the blood vessels again and they will bleed more, causing more pain and swelling. 

After 1 – 2 weeks, come to us for further treatment.

Parents, Children and Grandparents

Something that is very present at the moment — now I am going to be very straight with you, as always, but with compassion — BUT today I want you to hear some bells going OFF. 

Many feel sick if they decide to stop talking to a family member because they are difficult to be with.  Others don’t know what to do, they just keep hoping everything will be okay and they get more confused and upset, taking everything to heart.

Parents are giving up on their children, children are giving up on their parents, and grandparents are giving up on their children and grandchildren.  Dads are giving up on their wife / partner and his children, Mums are giving up on their husband / partner and children.

Stop!  No matter what is going on, don’t give up on them.  Everyone goes through hard patches and if you stop talking and being with your family, nobody wins and everybody loses. 

Yes, what they are doing is hard to take, but the more you avoid being with that person, the more they may follow you, ring you, and come to see you.  Why?  Because they don’t want to lose you.

Yes, their behaviour is not the way you want.  Do you like anybody telling you how to act or what to say?  I know, it is awful.

Let me explain something very important.

We are all unique, every one of us.  Stuff happens to all of us, awful things, little things.  Maybe someone has died in your family that you were close to and miss so much, you’ve had a major trauma, and the world’s chaos is impacting the weather, whether you like it or not.

Each person has confusion, upset, fears and trauma going on every day.

Each person is wanting to be loved, hugged, understood, needed and thought well of. 

Each person is searching for freedom, happiness, calm, peace, love, respect, security and abundance.

What can you do?

Find compassion for yourself and give compassion to your family.  Look at what is there for each person in your family.  Yes, you can run away and find another life, BUT you will create the same pain and chaos.

How to Stop Anxiety – “The Next Level”

Many take tablets to stop the pain.  Anxiety often stays for a long time and is given a lot of power because that voice in your head is chatting away.  The voice, the one you listen to, you will find it always wants you to stop, leave and run away.

A recovery phase of massage treatment is the return of your energy fuel tank to nearly full and this is when you will start to feel good again.  With each regular massage comes easy movement and you’re able to enjoy each day again.

A young mum came in and she was fatigued and could not figure out why her daughter would not sleep during the day at all, and only 3-4 hours a night, then stay awake for the rest of the night.

She was an older mum of 40 years old, and was going to enjoy this time because she had been working for many years and had managed many people, she organised many things at once at work and she was a perfectionist.

What is perfect for some, others can’t stop because they are driven (they also watch one or both of their parents with perfectionist ways too.  This is called a ‘learned behaviour, but this story is for another day).  When she became a mum she did all the mum things.

She then switched on her management career perfectionist ways to cope with a small baby.  She was doing, doing, doing and the child was picking up on her mum, being busy doing, doing, doing.  Staying awake was part of her daughter’s alertness.  Mum has a regular massage and found the more she stayed in her relaxation mode, her husband became more relaxed and her daughter slept more.  She started massaging her daughter’s feet, the way I showed her.

It is not putting up with problems but finding the solutions that works.  Our children are watching and learning everything we are doing, like our good and our not-so-good behaviours. 

Adults watch adults to grow and to become more successful in business, relationships and life as well as what others think and how they act.  Be in alignment with your own down-to-earth principles of love, peace, respect, abundance, joy and being true to you and your family first.  Be aware of others’ chaos.

Easter and Anzac day is a week away. In our own family we often go home to the country and catch up with family and friends. This year we all get to take a bigger break. The schools’ holidays are nearly here; soon the teachers will come in and get their muscles de-stressed and get their energy balance up – ready for their break and next term.

Mums and Dads (including Grandparents):  Is your body ready for the holidays and all the actives of your children or are you carrying a pain or injury somewhere that needs sorting out?  Most of the time, it is the muscles that have gone into overload.

Tip #35:  When we feel pain such as headache, shoulder ache, and neck ache, your body is telling you, “I am in trouble please help me.”  Many ignore these symptoms and think more exercise, just run it out! Often when the pain get worse you’ll have pulled a muscle.

This is the body’s way of telling you I need a massage – HELP!

Tip #13: We have some people come for massage when their injury is so painful and as one lady said, she waits until her right shoulder blade muscles are really a stabbing pain. This takes longer to recover from old injures in muscles. A week old injury is easier to release than overloaded, painful and traumatised muscles that are in pain for years and years.

How Do You Deal with Your Anxiety?

Many find taking tablets stop the headache this time so what will you do, tomorrow and the next day, in the build up of tablets in your body?  I always think if I take them all the time, what happens when I might really need it for an injury?  They would be ineffective.  Others take tablets for anxiety, and often anxiety still stays very high day-in and day-out.

You may ask, “What does anxiety feel like?” It feels like fatigue, being tired, aching muscles, stomach hurts, confusion and upset.

Where does anxiety come from?  Well, it is often starts when you have had a trauma, grief, accident, or operation, and when something comes out of left field you are not prepared and you don’t know how to cope with that issue.

When you are fatigued, many people mistake this for anxiety and often depression. They often look and feel the same. When you have a massage, your energy returns and you feel great for a week, then down you go again.

When this happens, this measurement tells you that you’re working really hard and many times you can have this fatigue come on over years and years.  What happens is in your energy tank, like the fuel tank in a car, you are on your reserves. It requires 100x more effort to keep it all together.

One Lady came to me who had a fulltime job, and each night could not go out with the girls, each day she struggled to get out of bed and be at work before 10am.  Most of the time she had screaming headache after screaming headache.

Work and sleep was all she could do.  After the second massage she started to feel like she had some of her energy back and managed to stay out to 9 pm one night and the headaches had stopped!  Her body had been going into burnout. 

Have a check-in with yourself if this is sounding a little bit like you as this is becoming common in the clinic.

A massage releases the fatigue, opens the muscles and relaxes the mind to help you feel calm.  Massage stops anxiety, which causes a build up of tension in the muscles, pain in the neck and shoulders, headaches, grinding of your teeth and earaches. This happens because the muscles are doing the entire workload.

Take an office job; the amount of sitting and tapping on the keyboard causes vibration back up through your arms which causes muscle pain. Massage works really well to loosen the fibres of the muscles, allows free movement, and prevents having to have an operation down the track because pins and needles numbness is so painful.

Pregnancy Massage

Over the last few months many pregnant mums have had their babies and are now coming in to release the muscles in their neck and shoulders from holding and carrying their baby, taking them in and out of the car, and lifting and leaning over into the car.  All this can cause stomach and back pain, nausea, overwhelmed and non coping Mums.  Massage is perfect for releasing tension all over the body. 

One Mum has brought her baby with her and because mum had a regular massage while pregnant, the baby has heard the music before in the womb and was relaxed, smiling, and went off to sleep for the whole one hour massage.  It was lovely to have both mum and baby together while mum had her massage.  What a lovely way to go, her staying on top and keeping her stress minimal.
