I can't think of too many things that are more enjoyable than spending a Saturday or Sunday afternoon having a fabulous barbecue on the patio with my family! I know that we are taking advantage of as many of these early autumn weekends as possible. I hope you get the opportunity to do the same!!

A family barbecue is such a great way of getting everyone together in one place, enjoying good food and catching up with what's going on in everyone's lives. One of the things that I and all of the other women REALLY appreciate is that the men do most of the cooking … such fun watching them working together to make sure everything is cooked perfectly :) and the pride they take in serving up all of that great food makes my heart happy!

The girls and I have a great time in the kitchen working together to make all of the different salads and setting the table with the condiments and tableware. The time we get to spend together and the conversations we have are PRICELESS. And that is just the beginning of the fun for us.

Life is really busy and we choose to use the down time we have on the weekends to relax and spend quality time with one another. It's one of the things we choose to do to bring and keep our family together … even when everyone is really busy doing their own thing …

Here's something to remember. No one has the time to do anything unless they choose to make the time to do it. Our family stays close and connected because we choose to make the time to be together.

What I have found is that when we want something badly enough, we will ALWAYS find a way to make the time! YOUR family is worth it … make the time to be with one another and grow together! Enjoy these beautiful weekends barbecuing with your family on the patio :) … the food will be great and the company even better!!

 Helen Tip #51: How To Complete With Others Nicely
Friendships start and over time most relationships change. Some people move on in a positive empowering way that can leave a negative person feeling like they are having the energy drained right out of them. A lot of times we hear something similar being said about marriages and long term relationships that have ended.

If you find yourself in a situation like this, please understand that it’s not about finding all the negatives about the relationship and the other person you can so that you give yourself an excuse to not talk to them any longer … A relationship like this deserves better than being abused and made wrong. The way to honour both the relationship and the other person is to sit down with them and talk … have a heartfelt conversation about what you are feeling inside and what is happening for you.

The little voice in your head is not interested in you solving any issues from an empowering place, but it is looking for ways to cause upset and shock to each person, especially the other person you are hurting. Often, the resulting damage is done with such force that it is irreparable.

This happens when a person is not communicating with their friends, parents, siblings or therapist to let them know what is going on. That little voice is playing a mind game and it wants to hurt everyone concerned. Oftentimes, the damage is so severe that the relationship with the other person cannot be repaired or restored.

The moment you don’t connect with your support people, your little voice will make you very wrong about what is happening the real world. It will twist the story so that you feel right about being upset and overwhelmed. This makes it easy to making up stories that are not true.
If you are upset and in overwhelm because of a broken relationship, you have to know that what you are hearing in your head is not the truth. It is nothing but a story. What you perceive to be going on is false. Talk to your parents, girlfriends or therapist to get their thoughts and a new perspective about what you are saying and be very honest about what is going on. This will allow you to honour yourself, the other person and the relationship you had.

Lara Tip #62: Biggest Loser – Releasing Those Last Few Pounds



Are you watching this season’s Biggest Loser? If you are, are you inspired by what you see? Do you feel as though all of this is a bit extreme?

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we had a “behind the scenes” medical team watching our every move, ready to help us the minute we moved the wrong way and injured ourselves? Or, our own private massage therapist waiting in the wings to help with all of the aches and pains? Truth be told, we really don’t know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes of the show!

What I do know is that, when you start working out, your muscles and hip joints, your knees and ankles, your shoulders, wrists, neck and lower back will slow you down if they are hurting! And trust me …. Every muscle and joint in your body will be sore and hurting if you have not worked out in a while. This is the perfect time come in and have a massage – BEFORE you tear the muscle or deeply injure a joint. The massage will loosen the tension in your muscles so that you can safely keep on exercising.

You’re out of the game if you get injured. The aches and pains you feel are your body’s way of talking to you … warning you … that you need to pay attention … RIGHT NOW! Pain is your body’s way of saying “STOP … Help Me!!!!”
Some people try using different groups of muscles to keep going with the program, but this is only a temporary solution. Those muscles will soon be in pain and become injured if no treatment is received. It’s really important to look after all of those little aches and pains in the beginning so that you can continue on with your program and continue to improve and build your strength.

Your back, legs, calves and hamstrings will allow you to go further and get better results if they are cared for with massage. Recovery time is shortened. This is when the magic of exercise and massage fit like a glove and help you get to where you want to go.

Here is something to think about … one of the contestants said that she is doing the challenge so that she can become a “proper Mum”. I would venture to say that she is already being a proper Mum … however her body image is wrapped up into who she believes a “proper Mum” is, so she is doing the program. Being the right size has very little to do with being a proper Mum … it has everything to do with the “I’m not good enough” story that too many women tell themselves every day. Being a healthy Mum who takes care of herself and a great role model for her children is much more empowering, don’t you think?

And with thought in mind … Out with my rowing machine to do my 10 minutes of daily exercise!!

Feature Article – Empowering The Family Man & Relationships

Yes Dads, Mums get really scared and need you. Being by your partner’s side, reassuring them will bring life together. Often Mum’s biggest question is, “Have I got it right?” … and we look at those we know to show us what to do, but in reality Mum and Dad are learning as they go. They are doing their best to sort what makes sense for them and what is advertising bull!

Remember, advertising and marketing is focused on SELLING something and it can create far reaching problems down the track by manipulating what popular thought culture is … “In order to do the right thing for your children, you MUST do this otherwise you are not doing a good enough job of being a parent …” There is a lot of fear created with the marketing some companies do online and offline … FEAR is known to be a great motivator.

New parents have parents that they can share ideas with. They often have friends, brothers and sisters who already have children of their own that they see on a regular basis. If they are paying attention, new parents will see that they really don’t need a lot of the expensive equipment that is out there.

Buying the basics is the way to go :) …. Remember you can always add as you go!!


Here is where the Power of Partnership plays an important role …

Before the birth of your child, agree, between the two of you, to work together during this amazing time.

Dad, Mum needs you to be the king of your castle! She needs you to protect and look after the family when she is tired, upset and confused. When you are partners, you will know what she needs even if she does not know in the moment. Mum, you need to let Dad be the king of the castle knowing that you are the queen of the castle. You need to trust him and let him do what he knows is best. Together you will come up with the answers. Remember too, your parents and sisters, friends and brothers are great backup if they have children.

Here are a couple of suggestions to help you both grow as parents …

Only read books, 1-2 at most, that are written in a down to earth way. Make sure that they have been updated and are written by an author who is living the dream you want to be living in the real world. There are quite a few books out there created by people who only have uni based or job based experience. You really want to make sure that you are getting advise from people who have children and grandchildren and who have real-life experience with what works and what does not work.

Grandparents are a great resource for support. And, when you show your children how to care for and behave with grandma and grandpa, you are also teaching them how to care for and behave with YOU when your children become parents themselves.  

When my grandson and granddaughter come over to our house to stay on Saturday and Sunday, they love it when we are do things together – cooking together in the kitchen, going for a drive to take bottles to recycle in the land cruiser, in the shed making things and using the spammers, hammers, nuts and bolts! It makes my heart happy to see that it’s not only Luke who wants to be out in the shed but also Jennah my grand daughter. They just LOVE spending time with their grandpa. Sharing those little every day things and being together is just wonderful all the way around!

12 Tips for Coping With Stress During Pregnancy
Below are listed several techniques that both women and their husbands/partners have found useful in helping to relieve the sense that life is going into overwhelm.

Gaining confidence in your life: Sit back a little and admire what you have achieved already. Often things don’t quite go the way we were told they would and we don’t understand why …

In the first nine parts of this series we discussed …
Part 1. First, take a look at all the activities you do in your life Monday to Sunday — morning, afternoon and night time.

Part 2. When becoming pregnant, you will be coping as you normally do. Be sure to rest and put your feet up help with any swelling in your feet and ankles.

Part 3. Be prepared to give up some control over the life-style you have worked so hard to attain. Many things about pregnancy are not in your control. 

Part 4. Take a little time and reassess where you are up to each week and allow your husband’s/partner’s input and care to help you with your decisions about where you are up to.

Part 5.  If you are tired of being tired, massage works so well.

Tip 10. Late In Your Pregnancy, Birth and Being At Home
As you go into late pregnancy, you are counting down the last few weeks and days before having your baby. This is the time when you can take it a little bit easier and add the finishing touches to everything that you have been doing for the past 8 months!

I always recommend that my clients take the last 1-2 months to rest and relax as much as they can. This is putting the finishing touch to a well baked, ready baby :) The more relaxed and well rested you are, the more positive you will be when you go into labour and when you bring home your beautiful, brand-new baby.

Don’t forget to take the time to pack your bag so you are ready to go to the hospital when the time comes! :)

Pregnancy Massage is helpful and beneficial up to the day of birth and as soon as a week after birth! Massage while you are breastfeeding is wonderful. Honestly, the best time for massage is anytime because it releases tension and restores over-all balance.

You may be feeling both ready and not ready in the last few weeks. So just enjoy where you are because life will change and a new chapter is about to start soon.

Emotions can be high … something as common place as watching a movie can bring tears to your eyes which is quiet normal throughout an entire pregnancy.

Make a separate list of phone numbers so that one SMS can be sent to everyone who needs to know that the baby has arrived!! You don’t want to miss any body J If you’re into Facebook this is a fabulous tool to use so that you can let your world know about your wonderful news.

After you come home there is breast feeding. Many of the health studies done show that it is good for Mum's and baby's health.

Massage is particularly helpful in releasing the tension from the birth and releasing accumulated muscular tension from carrying the baby during pregnancy.

Massage is SUPER beneficial after birth. The weight distribution will change because you are doing different things with your body … carrying the baby in your arms, looking at the baby by bending your head forward and a little to the side, carrying a baby carrier and baby bag, and lifting and pushing a pram for car travel …
Typically Mums favour one side and the body reacts like it is starting to play a new sport. The muscle tension created by these new activities will cause pain if left unattended.

A TOTALLY AVOIDABLE issue is “the blues”. Hormonal changes cause emotional changes. In most cases, what is generally referred to as post-partum blues, is an emotional/hormonal build up during pregnancy, birth and dealing with a bunch of new stuff and situations. This build-up leads to feelings of overwhelm very quickly. Massage helps the body release the build-up from the tissues, reducing the over-load a new Mum’s body is dealing with.

When Mums get the right kind of help, they feel more confident, fulfilled and happy. It is a plus for Dads to have a massage after the birth because, all too often, they are suffering from a lack of sleep and massage gives Dad the support he needs to be at the top of his game.

New Dads are often forgotten during all of the excitement.  It’s important to remember just how important they are to the whole process. Dad needs to be fresh and ready to go each and every day. He is a King looking after his Queen. The better Dad and Mum do together, the more likely it is that baby will sleep, grow and feed well. And one thing I know about every Mum and Dad is that they want to experience the blessing of having a good baby … If that is a situation you would like to experience, you have to ask yourself two questions … “How much do I want it?” and “Am I prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure that it happens?"

A lot of Mums (and Dads) are still stuck in the old paradigm of “I will just have to cope with all this by myself when I go back to work!” This is one of those old fashioned mindsets which is based in scarcity and negativity. It might be time to change that if you are committed to living a happy, positive life!

Today, NOW in 2013, a better way to “cope” is to have positive support from as many resources as possible. The better the support team a family has, the more wonderful things are for the family as a whole. Like all new things, this choice of behaviour has to be learned and assimilated. We have a saying in our home … “Two heads are ALWAYS better than one!!” :)

  1. Write down all the jobs you have had since leaving school.
  2. How many years did you do that kind of work
  3. Write down all the skills you learned
  4. What is your passion and what would you love to contribute to the world if you could have your dream.
  5. Which area did you enjoy the most.
  6. Would you rather talk to people in the back office, do you like numbers, would you rather be outside or inside
  7. What time of day are you the most productive.
  8. When do you feel the most tired
The bigger the list the more you will find out about yourself :) and what you might be really good at doing if you wanted to build your own business and work from home too!

Why Would You Want To Tell A Friend?

Today’s community is changing and becoming better informed than ever because of TV news, Social Media on the internet, and the daily news in the paper. It’s not uncommon for us to hear how a friend lost their money because someone that took what was not theirs or how someone did not get the goods that they had paid for. It’s just not right. When these types of things happen, it hurts everyone.

Another lady said she was able to create a picture in her mind as she listened. The story flowed in her mind. She felt herself calming down. She was delighted that she had finally found a way to enjoy the bus ride to work!
